The Gift of Goats Gives Ugandan Orphan a Better Life

Geoffrey Okello

Orphaned by AIDS, Geoffrey Okello is now building a future thanks to Heifer.

Mirika Nasira from Uganda doesn’t remember losing her parents to HIV/AIDS. But she remembers the fear and hunger that overwhelmed her as a little girl. She had no family to turn to for help, and many members of the community looked upon her as an outcast.

But then Jennifer Mutambo stepped in and adopted Mirika. But with children of her own, Jennifer soon found her resources stretched too thin to be able to keep her family nourished and pay for essentials, such as school fees.

That’s when Heifer International stepped in to help.

Heifer provided Jennifer and other participating families with the gift of goats and training in their care. Before long, Jennifer’s goat was producing enough milk to keep her children, including little Mirika, strong and healthy.

By making a gift to Heifer today, you have the opportunity to help heal the wounds left by HIV/AIDS.

The Mutambo’s new goat has even made it possible for each child to attend school. That’s because with the organic fertilizer provided by the goat, Jennifer’s banana trees yield enough surplus harvest to sell at market for income.

Please, donate to Heifer today and help empower another family in need, so that orphans just like Mirika can find a welcoming, secure environment where they may grow and thrive.
