Heifer Philippines Monitoring and Evaluation Uses New Survey Technology

A Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) workshop was held for Heifer Southern Philippines partners, introducing a new survey tool guided by Heifer’s Theory of Change. Nilda Udarbe, community facilitator for the Developing Dairy Zones for Smallholder Farmers in Agusan del Norte Dairy project said, “Before, we used to have fewer partner families but it took us a long time to complete the consolidation process. But now with this system, once encoding is complete we can readily see the results in a more accurate and systematic way.”

Nanay Minda, affectionately known as “Mother Minda,” and her family were less affected by Typhoon Bopha than others, so she enthusiastically led the group of farm families to bounce back. She assisted HEED Foundation and Heifer in organizing groups for the distribution of emergency relief goods.

African Goat Auction a First for Small Farmers

Heifer South Africa attended a goat auction March 7, 2013, at Msinga in KwaZulu-Natal. The auction, run by AAM livestock agents and auctioneers with the Mdukatshani Rural Development Programme (MRDP), was one of the first indigenous goat auctions in the country and the first time in KwaZulu-Natal that local, smallholder, indigenous goat farmers had the opportunity to sell their livestock through a formal and fair auction process.

Felicia: A Mother in Romania

Felicia lives in Romania with her husband and nine children. She works tirelessly to provide her family with everything they need to be healthy and happy. Since joining a buffalo project in 2011, the family's nutrition has improved from the milk and dairy products their buffalo, Florica, provides. Between their buffalo and farming activities, Felicia has hope for a bright future for her family.
