LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Heifer International is getting an $8.5 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for work in Africa.
The grant announced Thursday will go toward Heifer's East Africa Dairy Development project.
The money is to enhance work already begun Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. The project may be extended to Ethiopia and Tanzania in the coming year.
The dairy project began in 2008 with a $42.8 million grant from the Gates Foundation to help dairy farmer families increase their output, income and expand market infrastructure.
